Impending Global Food Chain Crisis due to Rural Migration and COVID-19 Coronavirus

Rural migration by younger farmers leaving farming is taking place worldwide and call for global action urgently to have sustainable solutions for two basic problems in farming:

(1) Farming is extremely labour intensive, and

(2) Unreliable water sources and irregularities of monsoon

According to The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations:

According to UN Food Systems data:

The food and agriculture sector is the single largest employer in the world, despite a majority of its workers living in poverty. There is more food available today than ever before, yet up to 800 million people are chronically undernourished.

UN Food Systems Summit 2021 is about Generating momentum, expanding knowledge and sharing experiences to help countries unleash the benefits of food systems for all.

However, the COVID-19 Coronavirus will change the situation in the global food chain

dramatically. Therefore, it’s time for the international community to prepare the plans for the impending Global Food Chain crisis in 2020-21.
