Kharif season begins from onset of monsoon or based on forecast of rainfall.
Overall, in India there are significant decreasing trends in annual rainfall year after year and monsoon months are becoming highly irregular.
Also, weather forecast is erroneous and risky for famers to pre-plan their activities at any stages in farming starting from sowing to harvesting as well as in storage and marketing of their farm produce.
In addition,
Farm labourers not available even at high cost and reduced effective working hours.
No doubt, why younger farmers are migrating to cities to do jobs even in unorganised sectors. Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh having mostly stepped farms are worst affected states due to large scale migrations despite incentives offered by state and central governments.
Recent tragedies of farmers were avoidable with accurate weather forecast alerting them on unseasonal rain and hailstorms damaging their standing crops and harvested crops during tragic times of COVID-19 pandemic.
While at SCA Vatika, life was getting better and better at the same time and all farm produce were safely stored.
Since last four years, SCAIE stopped planning farming activities based on weather forecast or waiting for onset of rainfall. Instead, SCAIE always plans for farming based on age-old proven practice of Lunar months for each season and supported by experience rather than predictions.
Accordingly,
Kharif season begins on arrival of clouds of Aashaadha (अषाढ़ी मेघ).
At SCA Vatika sowing is completed for 17 types of vegetables on 3 June 2020 and for 8 types of Kharif crops on 4 June 2020, probably earliest in this area.
SCA VATIKA harvesting Rabi and Kharif crops of premium quality with high yields consistently for last four years with Holistic Farming developed by SCAIE using Regenerative & Biological systems and ZERO use of any types of pesticides and fertilisers. Also, it is bullocks-free, labour-free and consuming only 3% of irrigation water as compared to traditional farming.
(Please also note about how SCA Vatika could do this with limited manpower of only 5 persons inclusive of management and working staff)
Holistic Farming of SCAIE is now available as sustainable solutions to make farming labour-free, bullock/buffalo/horse-free, easy, enjoyable, and rewarding for younger farmers to return to their natives and adopt farming as the vibrant career.
Below are latest pictures of SCA Vatika taken on 3-4 June 2020 and a film "Sowing for Kharif (2020) Crops at SCA Vatika" produced by SCAIE for free viewing. I wish it would inspire one and all either to adopt farming as a vibrant career or to support farming as the most fulfilling wish of everyone's life. And together we will surely make New World A better place for generations to come.
