Time to enact regulations on borewells

Irregularities of monsoon and weather predictions are unreliable. Farmers cannot rely on these. Rivers too are running dry. Lakes are no more existing since a dried lake is filled up with clay to build residences. Therefore, farmers are helpless to get water not only for farming but also for drinking water in their villages.

Under the situations, borewells are main and only source of water. Farmers keep digging the borewells as they wish, completely unplanned.

More and more borewells are dug deeper and deeper in a village and in farms. The situation in the arid region where SCA Vatika is located is quite distressing now where depth of borewells is more than 1200 feet and yet they run dry.

As a result,

  • Ground water table keeps dipping

  • Farm’s soil is getting salinized with increasing contents of harmful salts

  • Soil fertility keeps reducing

  • Water from these borewells is no more potable and causing numerous waters borne diseases.

Govt. must enact strict regulations on borewells before it is too late.

Only borewell in SCA Vatika is 250 feet deep since beginning (16 years now). It is only source of drinking water and for irrigation as well in SCA Vatika. Water is always pumped out (rather extracted) scientifically.

It is setting an example for managing and operating the borewell within its natural recharging capacity without over exploiting.

You cannot milk a cow as you wish or as you need.
